Animal House

• Animal house of GNCP is registered with the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. (Registration number: 675/02/C/CPCSEA dated 13 th Sep 2007). All activities related to laboratory animal are performed as per the specified guidelines of CPCSEA, New Delhi as well as Institutional guidelines under the direct supervision of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC).
  
  The total area of animal house is 112 sqm (including functional area, storage area and experimental area). Each species (Rat, Mice and Rabbits) is housed in barrier maintained individual rooms to avoid disease transmission and inter-species conflicts. All efforts are made to maintain the animals under controlled environmental conditions [Temperature (22-29°C), Relative Humidity (50± 10 %), 12:12 hr light and dark cycle] with 100 % fresh air exchange in animal rooms and uninterrupted power and water supply. A hygienic condition is being maintained as per the CPCSEA guidelines. Regular disinfection of animal rooms and cleaning and sterilization of cages, water bottles, bedding etc are practiced.
  
  All experimental protocols involving the use of animals are reviewed by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) constituted as per CPCSEA-rules. The constitution is as follows:
